Identifying the uncinate fasciculus (UF) in DTIStudio using a multiple ROI approach

This protocol explains how to identify the uncinate fasciculus (UF) in DTIStudio. Note: Tractography shown in this protocol was performed in DTIStudio using 30 direction diffusion data.

To identify the UF:

First ROI: Identify the most posterior coronal slice in which the green fibers connecting the temporal and frontal lobes separate (marked by the arrow; 1). This slice is typically located at the anterior portion of the fornix in the midsagittal view. Select all fibers in the temporal lobe (2).

Second ROI Second ROI: In the same coronal slice, select the fibers projecting to the frontal lobe. If these fibers are not clearly delineated, select a slice slightly more anterior when they become visible.
* Be sure to remove all fibers that are clearly not a part of the tract.
